Quantum in Belgium, from science to applications

Add to calendar:
BECI is organizing their first edition of AI Night series.

Each edition will spotlight a different topic, and we’re kicking things off with one that’s rapidly shifting from research to business reality: Quantum.

The aim of the evening is simple: put two corporate perspectives face-to-face with two startup perspectives.

Why Quantum matters now ?

Quantum is leaving the labs, entering our businesses in areas like advanced computing, secure communications and precise sensing, through transformative use cases and breakthrough applications.

Although quantum sounds distend and abstract for many, it’s closer than we think for a very practical reason: security.

As quantum capabilities mature, they will undermine parts of today’s public‑key cryptography, meaning data that is considered safe today could become readable tomorrow, especially information that must remain confidential for years.

Therefore, Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), or the urging need for protection against the "quantum thread" is highly important and must be on our agenda.

Solid preparation matters: organizations should understand what is at risk, when, and how to plan the transition to PQC and broader quantum‑safe approaches.

Else, let us also pay attention to the world-changing value of quantum computing for the future of life science, transportation, logistics, finance or telecom.

Over 90 minutes, four speakers will share short, concrete presentations (use cases, lessons learned, and ecosystem insights), followed by 30 minutes of open Q&A with the audience.

You’ll leave with:

  • A clear view of what quantum is (and isn’t) today
  • Practical examples across secure communication, industry applications, sensing, and finance
  • A grounded take on PQC adoption and what organizations should start doing now
  • A snapshot of the Belgian quantum ecosystem and collaboration opportunities (incl. Quantum Circle)
  • Pointers on EU Horizon funding and how projects get shaped in practice

Audience: business decision makers, innovation leaders, strategists, IT & security leads, product owners, consultants, startups, public sector, and anyone curious about real-world quantum impact.
