Most AI training teaches you what AI can do. This masterclass teaches you how it actually works. In one intensive half-day session, you will get a rigorous, science-based introduction to the inner mechanics of AI, grounded in real understanding. What you will learn

The masterclass covers three interconnected themes.

The mechanics of AI. You will gain a clear understanding of how AI systems work under the hood, including machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, hybrid AI techniques, and generative AI. You will also explore the fundamental differences between how humans process information and how machines learn from data.

Matching problems to solutions. You will learn to analyse a real-world problem and identify which AI technique is best suited to address it. You will develop both a creative and a critical mindset towards AI, learning to move past the hype and engage with its genuine possibilities.

Limitations and bottlenecks. You will critically assess the role of data in training AI models, understand how data quality affects reliability and accuracy, and learn to recognise technical bottlenecks that commonly arise in AI implementation.

Your trainer

Marjon Blondeel is an AI-engineer and professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) AI Lab. She holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from VUB and Ghent University, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. At the lab, she develops and maintains AI demos in collaboration with researchers and leads workshops for audiences ranging from high school students to business professionals. These sessions cover a broad spectrum from introductory AI concepts to technical programming. She also lectures in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence bachelor programmes at VUB.
